By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.
You represent that you are at least 18 years of age, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement.
2. Description of Service
ExpenseBuddy.io is a personal finance management platform that allows users to:
- Create and manage multiple financial accounts (assets and liabilities)
- Record, categorize, and track income and expense transactions
- Set and monitor budgets across customizable categories
- Link bank accounts through Plaid for automatic transaction import
- Use AI-powered categorization to classify imported transactions
- Generate financial reports including budget analysis, profit and loss statements, and net worth tracking
- Track transfers between accounts
The Service is provided as a web-based application accessible through standard web browsers on desktop and mobile devices.
3. User Accounts
3.1 Account Registration
To use the Service, you must create an account by providing accurate, current, and complete information including your name, email address, and a password. You must verify your email address before your account becomes active.
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to:
- Choose a strong password (minimum 8 characters) and keep it secure
- Notify us immediately at support@expensebuddy.io if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
- Not share your account credentials with any third party
- Not create multiple accounts for the same individual
3.3 Account Accuracy
You agree to keep your account information up to date. We may use your email address to send important account notifications including verification emails, password reset links, and service updates.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for its intended purpose of personal financial management. You shall not:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users’ accounts or data
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers, or connected networks
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
- Use automated systems, bots, or scrapers to access the Service without our express written permission
- Transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code through the Service
- Use the Service to store or transmit content that infringes on intellectual property rights of others
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without authorization
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity

THE SERVICE DOES NOT PROVIDE, AND NOTHING IN THE SERVICE SHALL BE CONSTRUED AS, FINANCIAL, INVESTMENT, TAX, LEGAL, OR ACCOUNTING ADVICE. ALL REPORTS, BUDGETS, CHARTS, NET WORTH CALCULATIONS, AI-GENERATED CATEGORIZATIONS, AND ANY OTHER OUTPUT OF THE SERVICE ARE PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. YOU SHOULD CONSULT QUALIFIED LICENSED PROFESSIONALS FOR ANY AND ALL FINANCIAL, TAX, LEGAL, OR INVESTMENT DECISIONS.
5.1 User-Entered Data
You are solely responsible for the accuracy of any financial data you manually enter into the Service, including transaction amounts, dates, categories, and descriptions. Errors in user-entered data may result in inaccurate reports, budgets, and calculations. We bear no responsibility for decisions made based on inaccurate user-entered data.
5.2 Imported Data (Plaid)
Financial data imported through Plaid is provided by your financial institution via the Plaid API. While we strive to display this data accurately, we are not responsible for errors, omissions, delays, duplicates, missing transactions, incorrect balances, or any other inaccuracies in the data provided by your bank, credit union, financial institution, or Plaid. Bank data may be delayed, incomplete, or temporarily unavailable due to factors entirely outside our control.
5.3 AI Categorization Accuracy
AI-powered transaction categorization is provided as a suggestion only and may contain errors. Transactions may be miscategorized, assigned to incorrect categories, or fail to categorize entirely. You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying all AI-suggested categories before importing transactions. We accept no liability for errors, omissions, or consequences arising from AI categorization.
5.4 Not Financial Advice — Assumption of Risk
You expressly acknowledge and agree that:
- No information, report, calculation, chart, graph, budget summary, net worth figure, category suggestion, or any other output provided by the Service constitutes financial, investment, tax, legal, or accounting advice
- You will not rely on the Service as the sole basis for any financial decision
- You assume all risks associated with using the Service for personal finance management
- Global Transaction Systems, LLC is not a registered financial advisor, broker-dealer, tax preparer, certified public accountant, or legal professional
- Any actions you take based on information from the Service are taken at your own risk and sole discretion
- We are not responsible for any financial loss, missed opportunity, tax liability, penalty, or other adverse outcome resulting from your use of or reliance on the Service
6. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party providers to deliver certain functionality:

6.1 Plaid Authorization
By linking a bank account, you authorize Plaid to access your financial account information on your behalf. You may revoke this authorization at any time by unlinking the bank from the Linked Banks page, or by contacting Plaid directly.
7. AI-Powered Features
ExpenseBuddy uses artificial intelligence (Claude AI by Anthropic) to provide automatic transaction categorization. By using AI features, you acknowledge and agree that:
- AI categorization is provided as a suggestion only and may not always be accurate
- You are responsible for reviewing and approving all AI-suggested categories before they are saved to your account
- Transaction descriptions (merchant names) are sent to Anthropic’s API for analysis; no personally identifiable information is included
- AI features may be modified, improved, or discontinued at any time
- We do not guarantee the availability, accuracy, or reliability of AI-powered features
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 Our Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, branding, logos, text, graphics, and user interface, is the property of Global Transaction Systems, LLC and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works of the Service without our express written consent.
“ExpenseBuddy,” “ExpenseBuddy.io,” and associated logos and marks are trademarks of Global Transaction Systems, LLC.
8.2 Your Data
You retain all ownership rights to the financial data you enter or import into the Service. By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to use, store, and process your data solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service.
9. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be available at all times, uninterrupted, or error-free
- The results obtained from the Service will be accurate, complete, or reliable
- Any defects in the Service will be corrected in a timely manner or at all
- The Service will be compatible with all devices, browsers, or operating systems
- Bank synchronization through Plaid will always function, provide real-time data, or accurately reflect your bank account balances or transactions
- AI categorization will be correct, consistent, or available for every transaction
- Reports, budgets, net worth figures, or any calculations will be free of errors or suitable for any particular purpose
- The Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations
- Third-party services (including but not limited to Plaid, Anthropic, SendGrid, Stripe, NMI, and AWS) will be available, accurate, or function without interruption
9.1 System Failures
You acknowledge that the Service may experience downtime, errors, data loss, or other failures due to server issues, software bugs, database errors, network outages, hardware failures, security incidents, or other technical problems. We shall not be liable for any damages or losses resulting from such failures, whether or not we were aware of or could have prevented them.
9.2 Third-Party and Vendor Failures
The Service depends on third-party vendors and service providers including but not limited to Plaid (bank data), Anthropic (AI), AWS (hosting), SendGrid (email), Stripe (payments), and NMI (payments). Failures, outages, errors, data inaccuracies, security incidents, or service discontinuation by any third-party provider are entirely outside our control. WE ACCEPT NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR THE ACTS, OMISSIONS, FAILURES, OR ERRORS OF ANY THIRD-PARTY SERVICE PROVIDER.
9.3 User Error
You acknowledge that user error — including but not limited to incorrect data entry, accidental deletions, misconfigured settings, importing incorrect transactions, or failing to review AI suggestions — may result in inaccurate reports, budgets, or financial summaries. We bear no responsibility for consequences arising from user error.
YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU USE THE SERVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS MADE BASED ON INFORMATION PROVIDED BY OR THROUGH THE SERVICE.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GLOBAL TRANSACTION SYSTEMS, LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, CONTRACTORS, AFFILIATES, SUCCESSORS, AND ASSIGNS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE OF ACTION OR THE THEORY OF LIABILITY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Loss of profits, revenue, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
- Financial losses, missed opportunities, tax penalties, or adverse financial outcomes resulting from reliance on data, reports, calculations, or AI suggestions displayed by or generated through the Service
- Damages arising from unauthorized access to your account or unauthorized interception of your data
- Damages caused by or arising from third-party services, including but not limited to Plaid, Anthropic, SendGrid, Stripe, NMI, and AWS
- Service interruptions, downtime, data loss, data corruption, or technical failures of any kind
- Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in imported bank data, AI categorization, or any other automated feature
- Decisions made by you or any third party based on information provided by the Service
- The cost of procurement of substitute goods or services
- Any matter beyond our reasonable control
THE FOREGOING LIMITATIONS APPLY EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES AND EVEN IF A REMEDY SET FORTH HEREIN IS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.
IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE EXCEED THE LESSER OF: (A) THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE ACTUALLY PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100 USD).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In such jurisdictions, our liability shall be limited to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
11. Indemnification
YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY, DEFEND, AND HOLD HARMLESS GLOBAL TRANSACTION SYSTEMS, LLC, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, CONTRACTORS, AFFILIATES, SUCCESSORS, AND ASSIGNS (COLLECTIVELY, THE “INDEMNIFIED PARTIES”) FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, DAMAGES, LOSSES, LIABILITIES, JUDGMENTS, SETTLEMENTS, COSTS, AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING REASONABLE ATTORNEYS’ FEES AND COURT COSTS) ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO:
- Your use or misuse of the Service, including any financial decisions made based on information from the Service
- Your violation of these Terms or any applicable law or regulation
- Your violation of any third party’s rights, including intellectual property rights
- Any content, data, or information you submit to or through the Service
- Your negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud
- Any dispute between you and a third party arising from or related to your use of the Service
- Claims by any third party (including financial institutions, tax authorities, or government agencies) related to your use of the Service or data obtained through the Service
- Your failure to comply with applicable tax, financial, or regulatory obligations
This indemnification obligation shall survive the termination or expiration of these Terms and your use of the Service. We reserve the right, at your expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter for which you are required to indemnify us, and you agree to cooperate with our defense of such claims.
12. Termination
12.1 By You
You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time by contacting us at support@expensebuddy.io. Upon deletion, your account information and financial data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
12.2 By Us
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to:
- Violation of these Terms or our Acceptable Use policy
- Fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity
- Extended period of inactivity
- Request by law enforcement or government agency
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections regarding disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law survive termination.
13. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through the following process:
- Informal Resolution: You agree to first attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us at support@expensebuddy.io. We will attempt to resolve the dispute within 30 days.
- Mediation: If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, the parties agree to attempt mediation before a mutually agreed-upon mediator.
- Binding Arbitration: If mediation is unsuccessful, the dispute shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Ventura County, California, in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association.
You agree to waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against Global Transaction Systems, LLC.
14. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we make changes, we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page. For material changes, we may provide additional notice via email or through a prominent notice within the Service.
Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should discontinue use of the Service and request account deletion.
15. General Provisions
15.1 Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
15.2 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Global Transaction Systems, LLC regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements, understandings, and communications.
15.3 Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision. No waiver shall be effective unless made in writing and signed by an authorized representative of Global Transaction Systems, LLC.
15.4 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms without restriction.
15.5 Force Majeure
We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations under these Terms due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, acts of government, pandemics, internet outages, third-party service failures, or cyberattacks.
